What martial art styles does the AMAA teach?
The AMAA is a blended freestyle martial arts training facility. The foundation of the program combines elements of five main disciplines: Japanese Shotokan Karate; Americanized Tae Kwon Do Karate; Kickboxing; Self Defense; and Wrestling (grappling). Our style blends art, sport and self defense for a well-rounded martial arts training for men, women and children.
Are any additional programs offered?
Self defense seminars are offered periodically throughout the year. Contact us for dates and times.
How do I start my children in Karate?
It's easy – before making any commitment, we recommend you take advantage of the AMAA's introductory program which will give you an opportunity to see the school, experience some classes and meet the staff and other families that are involved. What programs are offered for what age children?
Children as young as 4 can start karate!
We offer a Little Dragon Class, for 4 and 5 year olds (not yet finished kindergarten) and is designed to acclimate the younger students to the regular youth program (which they begin at age 6).
How do adults get started?
Teenagers and adults should follow the same track – take advantage of the Introductory Package, then decide if you want to continue with classes. Call the AMAA to learn more or to set up an appointment: (609) 390-8000 ext. 2.
How much does the program cost?
Getting started costs $39.95. Call to learn more about rates and ask about family discounts.
How often do I need to attend?
Martial arts students are required to attend a minimum of six classes per month to stay on track for promotion. Typically students attend more than the minimum. The schedule is designed to allow flexibility to accommodate your training needs and all your other commitments.
Does the program continue throughout the summer?
Yes, the AMAA's curriculum is year-round.
How long does it take to get to black belt?
For a new student willing to make a commitment to consistent training and attendance, the average progression from White Belt to Black Belt takes four and one-half years. It is important to note that earning the Black Belt at the AMAA is neither easy nor impossible. The many benefits that you wish to receive overtime can be achieved only by those who are willing to stay the course.
Do you have to pay for belt promotion?
There are no belt fees at the AMAA White through Brown. When students are preparing for their black belts there is a minimial fee.
I have trained elsewhere - will the AMAA honor my belt achievements?
It depends on many factors. Call to schedule a consultation with Sensei.
Where is the AMAA located?
The Academy is located in the Seaville - Greenfield section of Upper Township, Cape May County, N.J. at 96 Route 50. Postal address is Ocean View.
